Question/Comment:
My Doctor has just prescribed Celebrex for severe shoulder pain. After I picked up my prescription and read the side effects I was horrified that they would even allow this on the market. I took it for 2 days and started taking over the counter advil or tylenol arthritis. They seem to work just as well. Any thoughts on this. This sounds like a pretty scarry med to me. Somehow, as painful as this is for me ( I can't lift my arm ) I could live with this, but just reading the side effects alone almost caused a heart attack. Is anyone on this med, and how are you doing on it. Also I found that it seemed to help in the short term, but by the end of the day it no longer helped.

Question/Comment:
I am finding the benefits outweigh the risks and have confidence in my doctors who consistently prescribe this drug for me for several yrs already. The only side effect I experience is periodic fluid retention but my kidney function is fine. I am on diuretics for the excess accumulative fluid.

Do other patients on this drug find they develop edema of the extremeties too? If so, do they continue taking this product or are they switched to something else and if so, is it as effective?

Question/Comment:
I've had problems with fluid retention on celebrex, too, also high BP. Because it is so effective in controlling my severe arthritis pain, I take several diuretics to help keep the fluid off, which is usually limited to the summer, and control my BP. My kidney function tests well. This drug is a case for me where the benefits outweigh the side effects. I take the diuretics in the a.m. so they don't interfere when I am out or sleeping at night.
